"Tools" has a "Speech Viewer" from where you can see what NVDA is communicating.From there, you can select "Tools" or "Preferences. Click the NVDA icon in the lower right corner. NVDA has a wide variety of configuration settings.In NVDA, you can navigate from heading to heading by the "H" key if a good heading structure is in place. A good "Heading" structure on the web page will make screen reader navigation efficient.Images - For each image, does the screen reader user know whether or not the image conveys important information and what that information is?.User Interface Text - Does the screen reader "read" any special instructions "before" the screen reader user lands on the applicable feature?.
Form Fields - For each form field under focus, does the screen reader user "hear" the field's label?.Skip Navigation - Is skip-navigation obvious through hearing alone? That is, when the user lands on a page and makes the first Tab click, does the user hear the option to "skip" to a part of the screen where the workflow starts?.Calendar controls - can the screen-reader user "enter a date" and escape the calendar control by keyboard through hearing alone?.Data Tables - In a data table, does the screen-reader user know exactly in what column and in what row the cursor is located without the use of sight? This is where you are very likely to find defects.There are areas on a web site where you are most likely to find accessibility defects that prevent screen reader navigation.When you are testing with a screen reader, you should be using keyboard-only navigation, without the mouse.You can configure the settings using the NVDA button at the bottom right of the screen. When NVDA is running, you will hear the text-to-speech from your speakers.
